Nepal Supreme Court upholding sovereignty of Nepal

Yesterday, Nepal Supreme Court delivered a verdict to reinstate the House of Representatives that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had dissolved. It also ordered the appointment of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the Prime Minister of the nation within two days.

Traditionally, the Nepali Congress and SB Deuba are considered pro-India, while Sharma Oli has a certain China-leaning. These developments may come as a setback to China. Overall, Nepal is witnessing many happenings which may bring about a significant change in the political and social life of this country.

 

Just before this verdict, the Supreme Court of Nepal quashed the unification of two political factions that had got together under the banner of the Nepal Communist Party led by Prime Minister Oli and Prachanda. Nepal Communist Party also got removed from the electoral register. It gave a major blow to Chinese diplomatic efforts to unite the Communist leaders.

For the last many months, demands for PM Oli to step down are growing. Oli's subservience to China is getting criticised heavily by the opposition, his own party members, and the common masses. People from the Terai region have also questioned Oli's anti-India policies. Recently, the people of Nepal have even demanded the return of the monarchy and restoration of Nepal's status as a Hindu nation.

This discontent among the commoners is getting fuelled by China's deceitful tactics against Nepal, which take place under the guise of friendship. China uprooted border pillars to usurp more Nepalese land. Beijing has encroached into Nepal at 11 locations, captured an entire village and plans to divert rivers.

Moreover, China has used Nepal as a pawn to fight India. Just before the Chinese attack in Galwan Valley, Nepal's PM Oli 'fabricated' a non-existential border dispute with India. China appears to have planned to divert India's attention to make it easy for them to execute their evil designs in Ladakh.

Summing it up, it remains to be seen how things turn out in Nepal and whether aspirations of common Nepalese masses are honoured. However, amid all the political activities, it is clear that the Nepal Supreme Court has stood up to maintain the sovereignty of the nation.
