Japan-Indonesia sign defence agreement due to increasing Chinese threat
The Japanese foreign ministry said, ‘The consistent efforts to make changes unilaterally, in the South China Sea by using force, has become a cause for major concern. The concerns felt by Japan and Indonesia are identical.’ The Japanese foreign ministry underlined the Chinese threat without directly taking names during the two-plus-two talks between the Foreign and Defence Minister of both the countries. Defence Minister Subianto appealed that Japan should provide more assistance to Indonesia in modernising the Indonesian defence strengths and training of the Indonesian military and navy.
US will not withdraw taxes imposed on Chinese goods: US Trade Representative
Washington: US Trade Representative claimed that the taxes imposed on the Chinese goods during former US President Donald Trump’s tenure would not be withdrawn. Former US President Donal Trump had declared an open trade war against China, accusing that China was fleecing the United States in bilateral trade. The Trump administration imposed taxes on Chinese goods imported into the United States, worth nearly $550 billion, during 2018 and 2019. In retaliation, China also started imposing taxes on US goods. The Global economy also was severely hit due to this trade war between the two leading economies of the world.
