Faith, Healing, and Bapu’s Grace: My Journey Through a Slipped Disc Surgery
Since June 2006, I had been experiencing pain in my lower back, which continued unabated for almost three months. As per Parampoojya Suchitdada’s guidance, I was undergoing physiotherapy and diligently performing the prescribed exercises, but I felt no relief. My job required me to travel a significant distance every day, which only added to my misery.
Subsequently, Suchitdada asked me to get an MRI scan done — and my worst fears came true. I had a slipped disc. The disc between the 4th and 5th lumbar vertebrae had protruded and was causing the pain. Orthopaedic specialist Dr. Vaccha recommended surgery. However, I had firmly decided that I would not undergo the operation unless Suchitdada himself advised it.
Over time, the pain began radiating from my back to my legs, and that was when Suchitdada asked me to go ahead with the surgery. Hearing that from Dada was a relief in itself.

Before leaving the house to get admitted, my husband and I performed Upasana. That night, I slept peacefully. The next day, as I was taken to the operating theatre, I experienced no anxiety whatsoever. I didn’t even realise when the Anesthesia was administered.
I woke up after the surgery — chanting (undoubtedly due to Bapu’s grace) “Jai Jai Aniruddha Hari” in my mind. I asked the doctor if the surgery was over and enquired about Dr. Vaccha, as I wanted to thank him. But he had already left for the day. I hadn’t seen or met him post-surgery. I firmly believe it was my Bapu and Dada who performed the surgery.
I was slightly dazed when I was brought back to the ward. As I woke up, the sweet sounds of the Aniruddha Kavach and the Dattamala Mantra filled the room. It felt as though Bapu had created a protective shield around me — which is why I felt absolutely no post-operative pain. When my friend Rashmiveera Mantri came to visit, I told her, “My Bapu is with me, and I’m absolutely okay.”
Many friends visited me during my hospital stay and asked about my well-being. People who were not even blood relatives were making efforts that many relatives wouldn’t. It felt like Bapu kept sending me his moral support through them. That is why I never really felt like I was in a hospital recovering from major surgery.
By Bapu’s grace, I was also able to complete a specific number of Ramnaam books I had intended to finish during my hospital stay.
Today, I am preparing to attend the Balvidya class (Ancient Indian Martial Arts) of the Ahilya Sangha. I bow at the lotus feet of Parampoojya Bapu — who safely brought me through this major surgery.
